SMC's Leave of Absence Program provides information and guidance for Employees and Managers regarding Leave of Absence options and the process for requesting time away from work. Leaves may be available for a variety of reasons, including an Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), employee’s own serious health condition, pregnancy or maternity-related needs, bonding with a new child, caring for a family member, an unpaid personal leave, or other qualifying personal circumstances.
The information below outlines the steps to get started, as well as the roles and responsibilities of Employees, Managers, and Human Resources throughout the leave process to help ensure requests are handled consistently and in accordance with applicable policies and laws.
