Weekend of Welcome Leader Program
The Weekend of Welcome Leader is an integral member of the Orientation & Campus Experience staff. At the heart, WOWies provide a friendly face and helpful hand to help new students transition to Saint Mary’s College. This leadership opportunity supports the mission of Saint Mary’s, the Campus Experience, and Orientation to provide programmatic support to the Weekend of Welcome in August. The primary role of the WOWie is to co-lead a small group of incoming students during the Weekend of Welcome and assist with preparations for all events during WOW. WOWies are expected to be present for all parts of Weekend of Welcome, engage in welcoming dialogue, and invest in providing a positive experience for incoming students.
The Weekend of Welcome Leader Application will open on March 25, 2026 and will close on April 17, 2026.
Weekend of Welcome Leader Position Description
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Attend all scheduled meetings with the Orientation Leader and WOWie team.
- Must be available to assist with the organization and implementation of Weekend of Welcome.
- Good communication and public speaking skills, professionalism, teamwork, a prompt and dependable work ethic and the ability to make new students and their guests feel comfortable, are essential for success in the program.
- Enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at the time of application, at time of hire, and duration of hire with at least sophomore class standing at the start of the position (August 2026)
- Must be in good academic standing at the time of application, at time of hire, and duration of hire. Orientation Leaders must maintain a 2.50 cumulative GPA. Student academic records will be reviewed by the Associate Dean for the Campus Experience.
- Must be in good disciplinary conduct standing at the time of application, at time of hire, and duration of hire. Student conduct records will be reviewed by the Associate Dean for the Campus Experience.
- WOWies may not hold both a Weekend of Welcome Leader and Associated Students of Saint Mary's College Executive or Resident Advisor position concurrently.
- Some physical activity including bending, lifting, twisting, and climbing stairs is required to properly complete responsibilities. In accordance with the Americans with Disability Act, reasonable accommodations can be provided after an Orientation Leader completes the request through Campus Housing and Student Disability Services.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
- Role model through actions and words of respect for human dignity and an appreciation for people of all races, ethnicities, genders, religions, abilities, and sexual orientations.
- Identify and encourage student leadership, participation, and intentional interactions on the floor/hall/campus via activities and programs that meet the needs of the residents and are based on the mission of the College: Liberal Arts, Catholic, and Lasallian.
- Remain aware and conscious to the personal and social needs of the students attending orientation and make appropriate referrals for those who need special assistance
- Facilitate various aspects of Orientation student and parent programs, including but not limited to check-in, icebreakers, interest sessions and discussion groups.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of events during Weekend of Welcome.
- Serve as a general resource for new students, families, guests and campus partners.
- Serve as an energetic group leader for 15-20 students during Weekend of Welcome activities.
- Supervise Weekend of Welcome activities, both on and off campus, and enforce college policies during all programs and events.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain confidentiality concerning position related information, relationships with staff, and student information.
- Sustain consistent communication with the Orientation & WOW Coordinators and Campus Experience staff, as direct supervisors, regarding the WOWie role and any issues or concerns arising from interactions with students attending Weekend of Welcome
- Attend and participate in all WOWie related training and meetings specified in the 2026 Weekend of Welcome Leader Agreement
- Assist the Campus Experience with other duties as assigned.

- For Weekend of Welcome Leaders who are living on campus for the Fall 2026 semester, WOWies will be able to move into their Fall 2026 residence hall room on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
- In the event a WOWie voluntarily or involuntarily leaves the Program prior to August 30, 2026, they will be assessed a fee of $50 per night starting on the date they leave the program. They will be held to the cancellation policy and if they leave campus housing for any reason they will be assessed the cancellation fees as outlined in the housing license.
