Housing Selection

First Year Room Selection:

On-campus housing is required for all first-year students, however, for the 2020-2021 Academic Year, the First-Year Residency Requirement is being temporarily suspended. We encourage all first-year students, if they can, to live on campus to take advantage of all of the benefits provided by living on campus. New students for the spring semester and transfer students enrolling for either the Fall or Spring semester are provided housing on a first-come, first-serve basis depending on availability. Current Student Room Selection:

June 10, 2020 Update: Saint Mary's is planning for in-person instruction for Fall 2020. We are also planning on having residence halls open with modifications to public restrooms, dining services, lounges, etc. to practice physical distancing. Our offices are actively working to follow State and County public health guidelines as students' health and safety are out top priority. 

  • Room Selection for to-be sophomores is June 16th & 17th.
  • Room Selection for to-be juniors and seniors is June 17th and 18th. 

Returning students will be able to view their lottery time slot in the StarRez portal after 5pm on Friday June 12, 2020. On your respective room selection day, students will log into the StarRez system during the designated appointment time to select a room.

Gender-Inclusive Housing:

Campus Housing offers gender-inclusive housing options for students. It is the intention of Campus Housing to make room assignments on how you, the student, identify. Please contact the Housing Operations Manager (925-631-4897) to discuss your housing preferences. For additional support and resources, please contact the Director of the Intercultural Center (925-631-8358) or the Director of the Center for Women and Gender Equity (925-631-4171). Housing Pre-Payment

First-Year Students: 

  • The $350 Pre-Payment is included in the $650 deposit incoming first-year students submit to confirm they are coming to Saint Mary's. First-Year students who wish to cancel their housing application for the 2020-2021 Academic Year should fill out this cancellation form by June 28, 2020 (to be eligible for a deposit credit due to the suspension of the First Year Residency Requirement).

Continuing Students:

  • All students are required to pay the $350 Housing Pre-Payment in order to complete the application process to lock in your space. This fee is credited toward your Spring housing charges.
  • Returning Students who cancel their Housing License and Dining Agreement after June 17th will receive additional cancellation fees.
  • The $350 Pre-Payment is forfeited if students cancel their Housing License and Dining Agreement after June 17th and may receive additional cancellation fees.


The Housing Pre-Payment is paid directly to the Saint Mary’s Business Office according to the appropriate corresponding deadline date.

All students are required to pay the non-refundable $350 Housing Pre-Payment in order to complete the application process. This non-refundable fee is credited toward your housing charges and needs to be paid before the application deadline. The Housing Pre-Payment is paid directly to the Saint Mary’s Business Office according to the appropriate corresponding deadline date.

In order to avoid delays in the processing of your Housing Pre-Payment, please make your payment online by logging into your GaelXpress account and click on 'View My Bill/Make a Payment.' Be sure to advise the Business Office, (925) 631-4209, that the payment is a Housing Pre-Payment. Otherwise, payments may be made in person at the Business Office (Filippi Hall, 1st Floor), with cash, check, money order, or cashier’s check or by mailing your check directly to the Business Office at:
