• Sawako Suzuki's receives provost research grant

    Education professor Sawako Suzuki has been studying the implications of parental self-confidence in the United States and Japan for the past 15 years.“Educators and health-care providers can’t change people’s life circumstances, but they can help people increase their parenting self-confidence,” she said. Suzuki’s research project is long-term, and the current phase focuses on fine-tuning the questionnaire for use in many different cultures.

  • Melanie Hayes Ed.D. ’15 Wins $30,000

    Melanie Hayes Ed.D. ’15, who has made it her life’s work to help children who are twice exceptional (both gifted and learning disabled) has won $30,000 from Comcast's Innovations 4 Entrepreneurs for using technology an innovative way. Hayes, who graduated in May from the doctoral program in Educational Leadership with a focus on twice exceptionality, founded Big Minds Unschool, a microschool for twice exceptional children that lets them learn without limits through mentoring and supporting their intellectual, social, and emotional well-being.

  • Dr. Dean Elias Receives ADRNC Award

    At the recent annual conference of the Association for Dispute Resolution of Northern California, Dr. Dean Elias is presented with the 2015 award for "excellence and outstanding contributions that promote peace building and conflict transformation" by Donald Proby, President of the ADRNC.

  • Dr. Clifford Lee publishes "Digital Natives" article in Huffington Post

    Dr. Clifford Lee, Assistant Professor in the Single Subject Teacher Education program, and Scholar-In-Residence at Youth Radio, recently published an article in the Huffington Post questioning the concept of "digital natives" and the importance of supporting youths' critical self-analysis of their online presence with the help of several unique and teacher-friendly online resources.

  • School Counseling student, Vanessa Touset, wins the Dale C. Burklund scholarship

    Counseling student, Vanessa Touset, has been awarded the Dale C. Burklund scholarship through the HB McDaniel Foundation. This is the only scholarship of its kind in California, specifically for graduate students in school counseling. At the awards banquet, Vanessa shared her project related to supporting LGBTQ students of color.
